MUSSOLINI ARNALDO: (1885-1931) Italian Journalist and Fascist Politician. Younger brother of dictator Benito Mussolini. Arnaldo worked at the Italian journal “Il Popolo d´Italia”, taking the leadership of the journal when his brother Benito Mussolini became Prime Minister. Benito Mussolini blindly trusted his brother Arnaldo, who also had the task of proofreading Benito's speeches. It has been reported that Benito and Arnaldo called each other on the phone almost every night. Arnaldo Mussolini deeply thanks his correspondent for his condolences after the death of his son Alessandro Italico, stating in part `… un abbraccio fraterno e tutta la mia fede, il mio ringrazimento e la mia gratitudine. Arrivederci presto a Roma´ (Translation: “…a fraternal hug and all my faith, my thanks and my gratitude. See you soon in Rome”) With blank integral leaf.
Arnaldo Mussolini died suddenly of a heart attack in Milan on 21st December 1931, aged 46. His brother Benito writes his biography, Vita di Arnaldo (“Life of Arnaldo”), which begins saying "I want to write tonight - 25 December 1931 - X - one of the saddest Christmases - perhaps the saddest - of my life, the first pages of the book that I dedicate to the memory of Arnaldo. Today, at Palazzo Venezia, for six hours, I began the counting of the papers left by him; a necessary, delicate operation, which I have completed and will carry out with great trepidation. "
