NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. A very fine L.S., `accordé Napol´, a bold ink signature with holograph word, one page, 4to, n.p., n.d. [1805-1808], to a letter addressed to him by Charles Lebrun, in French. Napoleon approves Lebrun´s request who states `Sire, Je supplie Votre Majesté de vouloir bien ériger en Comté la terre ci-devant Marquisat de Plancy en faveur de mon gendre, Adrien Godard d´Aucourt de Plancy, préfet de la Doire…´ (Translation: “Sire, I beg Your Majesty to be willing to erect the land formerly Marquisate of Plancy into a County in favor of my son-in-law, Adrien Godard d'Aucourt de Plancy, prefect of the Doire…´ Signed at the base `Lebrun´, and signed and underlined to the bottom left border by Napoleon. Charles-François Lebrun (1739-1824) Duke of Plaisance. French Statesman and Arch-Treasurer of the Empire. In the present letter he refers to the Marquisat of his son-in-law Adrien Godard d´Aucourt de Plancy, préfet de la Doire,Nièvre and Seine-et-Marne, a fervent and loyal supporter of Napoleon who, threatened by the Royalists, tried to cut his throat and would threw himself from the top of his castle tower and was left crippled.
