Bernadotte sends a letter, strongly recommending the appointment of an officer, and stating `Je prie le Ministre d´accueillir favorablement la demande du C. Marbot fils en obtenant du 1er Consul la place de Lieutenant qu´il sollicite; la mémoire de son père mort par suite des fatigues de la guerre et les espérances que donne ce jeune officier seront probablement des titres assez déterminants´ (Translation: “I ask the Minister to favorably welcome the request of C. Marbot son, by obtaining from the 1st Consul the grade of Lieutenant that he is requesting; the memory of his father who died as a result of the fatigue for services given in war and the hopes that this young officer gives will probably be quite determining”) The page has been partially clipped to the right edge, not affecting the text or signature.
